Events
Anyone from the UMBC Campus & surrounding community is invited to observatory events.
We have public events geared toward astronomy education — these are scheduled monthly Open Houses. More information about these can be found by navigating to the “Public Events” menu tab above.
We also have special events focused on high-profile astronomical events, you can follow our myUMBC Page (myUMBC:Observatory) for events and other related postings.
Observing Sessions
When the skies are clear and a good observation plan is concocted, we also hold observing sessions in the facility. Since the weather is so finicky, it is difficult to plan these more than a day or two ahead of time. This planning and decision-making happens on the UMBC Astronomy Club Discord Server. So we encourage those interested to join that server and become an “Observatory Fan” to keep up-to-date with our latest plans. Observatory Group
Membership in the Observatory Group is also open to any interested UMBC Campus or community member. If you’re interested in joining in on the fun, send an email to observatory@umbc.edu and let us know that you’re interested! Keep in mind that paid positions are limited, and all Observatory Group members are expected to keep open communication with the group and participate as their schedules allow.
