SBIG Research ST-11000M CCD (“wide-field CCD”)

Imager Specifications

  • SBIG Research STL-11000M (made by the Santa Barbara Instruments Group)
  • 4008×2762 pixels (Med. Res.: 2004×1381, Low Res.:1336×920)
  • 9 micron pixels => 0.280″/pixel
  • 37.25×25.70mm detector surface => 18.7’x12.6′ coverage
  • 16 bits/pixel => dynamic range of 65 536
  • 21 Mb image files with no binning
  • Anti-Blooming Gate
  • ~60 000 e Full Well Capacity (ABG)
  • Dark Current: 1.5 e / pixel / s
  • Read Noise: 11 e
  • Exposures of 0.01 to 3600 seconds (0.01 s resolution)
  • Gain: 0.8 e / ADU
  • Cooling: Thermoelectric, -30 C from ambient minimum

The imager has four standard resolution modes: no binning, 2×2 binning, 3×3 binning, and 9×9 binning. It can also be used in Nx1, Nx2, and Nx3 binning modes where N is an integer between 1 and 256. This is very useful when using the Spectrograph.

Spectral Response

The ST-11000M camera uses a Kodak KAI-11000M CCD. It has a spectral sensitivity range of 340 nm to 730 nm (>20%), peaking at 500 nm. See Fig. 1.

Note that this CCD is somewhat less sensitive than our ST-8E (up to 20% lower in QE betwen 400-700 nm, although the difference increases to 50% above 750 nm) but the FOV is far larger (a factor 3).
