Description:   Liz Patton explores how the ongoing pandemic has reimagined work-life balance and the history of working from home throughout the 20th century. She will examine the ongoing shifts in the relationship between work and home, the forces that contributed to this discourse, and how the expansion of the labor market and the growth of U.S. consumerism have affected views about working remotely in the 21st century.

Bio: Elizabeth Patton is an Associate Professor of Media and Communication Studies. Her book Easy Living: The Rise of the Home Office (Rutgers University Press, 2020) examines how the idea of working within the home was constructed and disseminated in popular culture and by the communication and real estate industries through mass media during the 20th century.
