Join us this summer for a series of fun and educational virtual events for the UMBC community.
Students, faculty, and staff — bring your own lunch and stay connected with the UMBC academic community.
Founded in 1797, Spring Grove Hospital Center is the second oldest psychiatric institution in the United States, with their Catonsville campus completed in 1872. In 1965, 400 acres of that campus were ceded to make way for the construction of UMBC. Join us to learn more about Spring Grove, from their silo that greets us as we enter campus to our future expansion on their recently transferred land. Dr. Drew Holladay will share his research on UMBC's Spring Grove history and help us discuss what that history does and could mean to our campus.
Bio:
Drew Holladay is assistant professor of English at UMBC and co-chair with Sharon Tran of the Disability Studies Faculty Working Group. His research combines rhetorical theory, disability studies, sociolinguistics, and digital humanities to examine writing about medicine, the brain, and mental health.
